The Your Phone experience starts on your PC with Windows 10 and the Your Phone app. From your PC you can connect to select Android and Samsung devices with these two apps:
- Your Phone Companion (YPC) app for most Android phones
- Link to Windows (LTW) app preinstalled on selected Samsung phones
You’ll see these names combined as “Your Phone Companion – Link to Windows” in the Google Play Store and in the Galaxy Store. In the Microsoft Store, you’ll see “Your Phone.” This link between your device and PC gives you instant access to everything you love. Read and reply to text messages with ease, view recent photos from your phone, use your favorite mobile apps, and manage your phone’s notifications right on your PC.

The Your Phone app will work with the following minimum system requirements:
- A PC running Windows 10 April 2018 Update or later.
- A phone running Android 7.0 (Nougat) or above.
Getting started and troubleshooting
You will find Your Phone preinstalled on the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. We’ll guide you through the extra few steps needed to complete the set up process.
On your PC:
- In the search box on the taskbar, search for your phone and select Your Phone from the results.
- You’ll be asked to sign into your Microsoft Account.
- Enter your mobile number when prompted. This will send a text message to your Android phone.
On your Android phone:
- Open the text message. It contains a link to download the Your Phone Companion app.
- Install Your Phone Companion and open the app.
- Follow the guided set up process. If prompted to sign into the Your Phone Companion app, be sure to use the same Microsoft Account you’re using on your PC.
That’s it! Now use the Your Phone app on your PC to enjoy a wealth of cross-device experiences.
Yes, you can use your mobile data to sync with your PC. However, if you’re concerned about the effect on your data allowance, we recommend remaining on a Wi-Fi connection.
On your Android phone:
- Open the Your Phone Companion app.
- Tap Settings .
- Select Sync over mobile data.
- Turn this option On or Off.
Your Windows laptop needs to be plugged in and Battery saver turned Off to keep your devices synced.
The Your Phone app will only ever create temporary files on your PC when viewing copies of your recent photos. It is not possible to transfer other files.
To ensure the fastest, most reliable connection, your Android phone and PC must be connected to the same trusted Wi-FI network. This optimization isn't possible on a public connection, for example, in a coffee shop, hotel, or airport.
When you first connect to a Wi-Fi network through Windows 10, you'll be prompted to set it as public or private (trusted). You can also change it at any time
These changes might not always be possible - for example, if your workplace controls your network connection.
Before we begin to change settings, we recommend quickly running through the following checks:
- Double-check you’re using the same Microsoft Account to sign into both Your Phone apps.
- Ensure Battery saver isn’t running on your PC or Android phone, as this might affect connectivity.
- You have an active Wi-Fi connection. Can you open your browser and navigate to your favorite website?
Still not working? Continue with the following troubleshooting advice.
On your PC:
Check if the Your Phone app can run in the background.
- Select Start (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard), then select Settings > Privacy > Background apps.
- In the list Choose which apps can run in the background, ensure Your Phone is enabled.
Ensure nothing is stopping you from sharing across devices.
- Select Start (or press the Windows logo key on your keyboard), then select Settings > System > Shared experiences.
- If you see Fix now in Accounts, select it and follow the instructions.
On your Android phone:

Phone screen (for select Samsung devices)
Phone screen allows you to interact with all your favorite Android apps and phone content directly on your PC. Phone screen uses a Wi-Fi connection between your Windows 10 PC and your Android phone to enable interaction.
- You will need a PC running Windows 10 October 2018 Update or later. However, we always recommend updating to the latest version available - currently May 2019 Update.
- To check and update your Windows version, on your PC go to Settings > Updates & Security > Check for update.
- To confirm you are running Windows 10 October 2018 Update (or later), on your PC go to Settings > System > About and check your version number under Windows specifications. It should read either 1809 or 1903).
- Your phone and PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- You will need to have a supported device to use this feature.
Currently the feature is only available on the following Android phones in select markets running Android 7.0 or greater:
- Samsung Galaxy Note10
- Samsung Galaxy Note 10+
- Samsung Galaxy Fold
- Samsung Galaxy S10
- Samsung Galaxy S10+
- Samsung Galaxy S10e

The Phone screen feature in the Windows 10 app only works when your phone and PC can communicate with each other. They’ll both need to be connected to the same network (for example, your home Wi-Fi).
If attempting to use Phone screen in your workplace, a successful connection may not always be possible. In that event we’d recommend talking to your IT department or network administrator.
Common troubleshooting for Wi-Fi:
- Check if your phone is connected to mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, by going into your phone’s Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi and ensure your Wi-Fi toggle is turned “On” and underneath your current network is “connected”.
- Check if your phone is connected it to the same Wi-Fi as your PC
- Start by checking your phone’s connection in Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi and note the name of the network under the current network heading.
- Check that this is the same network as your PC – on your PC go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and check at the top of the page, your PC Wi-Fi is turned “On” and the connected network is the same as on your phone.
- You may have two different Wi-Fi networks, e.g. one that uses the 2.4GHz band and the other 5GHz. If you click on your PC/phone Wi-Fi icon you should be able to see these networks in the list. Try connecting to the same network on both devices.
- Are you behind a firewall or using a VPN? If so, it could be blocking communication between your devices, you could try disabling these to see if this fixes the problem.
You can use your PC’s mouse, trackpad, keyboard, or touch-enabled screen to open, type, scroll, and interact with apps.
Tips for interacting using mouse and keyboard:
- Single click will behave as any single touch tap interaction
- Right click anywhere on your phone screen to navigate to the previous page
