This article applies to frontline managers.

If you’re trying to create a schedule for an existing team in Shifts, there are two options you can try.

Ask a current team owner to make you a team owner

The easiest way to get permission to create a schedule for an existing Team is to find an owner of the team and ask them to make you an owner, too.

  1. Find someone who is currently part of your team’s schedule. This might be your manager or the person who told you that your team uses the Shifts app.

  2. Ask that person to identify the team owners for your schedule:

    • On the left side of the Teams app, select  Chats  teams chat icon. If using the separate view, select  Teams   teams tab icon.

    • Look for a Team that has the same name as your Shifts schedule.

    • To the right of that team name, select  More options Teams more options icon  > Manage team  Settings gear icon.

    • Next to the team name, select Members.

    • Team owners are listed in a section called Owners.

  3. Ask a team owner to make you an owner:

  • Reach out to any team owner that you identified in the previous step and explain that you need them to grant you owner permissions to create and manage schedules for that team in Shifts.

  • You can share this documentation if they’re not sure how to make someone an owner: Make someone a team owner in Microsoft Teams

Get schedule permissions without becoming a team owner

It is possible to get permission to manage a schedule without being a team owner, but it requires help from your company’s IT admin. With schedule owner permissions, a frontline manager can manage their team's schedule without being able to do things like add or remove members or delete the team.

  1. Find your IT admin:

  2. Ask your IT admin to make you a Schedule owner:
