Turn off live captions

Overview

Walkie Talkie can detect what’s said in a channel and present real-time captions.

You’ll see captions for all your selected channels, including your pinned favorite channels, when you turn on live captions in Walkie Talkie.

The spoken language is the language spoken by people in the channel. You can set the spoken language for the channel you’re currently connected to or for all your pinned channels.

When you set or change the spoken language setting, captions are displayed in that language for everyone in the channel who has captions turned on.

Note: Captions appear when Walkie Talkie is open. You won't see captions if Walkie Talkie is running in the background.

Turn on live captions

When you turn on live captions, you’ll see options to set the spoken language.

  1. In Walkie Talkie, go to in the upper-right corner, and then tap Live captions.

  2. Tap Spoken language, and then select a language. Captions will appear in the selected language for the channel you’re connected to and for any of your pinned channels that don’t already have a language set.

  3. If you want to apply the spoken language setting to all your pinned channels (including those that already have a language set), turn on the Apply to my pinned channels toggle.

  4. Tap Confirm.

Important:

  • Make sure the spoken language you select is the language everyone is speaking in the channel.

  • Changing the spoken language setting affects everyone in the channel who has captions turned on. They receive a notification, and everyone sees captions in that language.

Change the spoken language

After you turn on live captions, you can change the spoken language for the channel you’re connected to at any time.

  1. In Walkie Talkie, go to in the upper-right corner, and then tap Channel language.

  • Everyone in the channel who has captions turned on receives a notification when the spoken language changes.

Turn off live captions

When you turn off live captions, you no longer see captions in any of your selected channels.

  1. In Walkie Talkie, go to in the upper-right corner, and then tap Live captions.

  2. Tap Turn off live captions.

Note: When you use Walkie Talkie, participants may choose to enhance their experience with live captions. The voice data of participants is processed to create captions (text).  Voice data may be considered biometric data in certain jurisdictions. None of the voice data is used to personally identify any participants. Voice data is used for the sole purpose of providing live captions to a user who turns on this feature during a Walkie Talkie session. As such, voice data is only processed for the duration of the session on your device and then deleted.
