This article lists some updates and frequently asked questions about changes to Microsoft cloud storage and end of support for personalized email address in Microsoft 365.
Update on changes to OneDrive photo albums
On August 31, 2023, we announced an upcoming change to how OneDrive photos and photo albums would count against your overall cloud storage quota.
Based on customer feedback, we decided not to implement this change. Photo albums continue to count toward storage as they do today.
Changes to cloud storage
Since February 1, 2023, your Microsoft cloud storage usagae across Microsoft 365 apps and services includes Outlook.com attachments and OneDrive data. As a result, you might have less storage available in OneDrive.
Your data continues to be protected by Microsoft’s comprehensive security features.
What's included in my Microsoft cloud storage?
Your Microsoft storage quota applies to your personal Microsoft account and includes:
OneDrive files and photos, for example:
- Personal files you store, upload, and sync from your computer or mobile device, such as Office documents.
- Mobile camera roll, screenshots, and other files and photos that you save to your OneDrive.
- Items in your Recycle Bin.
Outlook.com attachments and email in-line images.
Microsoft Teams message attachments and recordings.
Loop meeting notes and Ideas files.
Images that are part of your Designer projects.
How do I check my cloud storage usage and quota?
As these storage changes gradually roll out, you can check your storage usage and quotas by signing in to your Microsoft account and checking the Microsoft storage area of your account dashboard.
Tip
If you only sign in with a mobile or cell phone number, check your storage in OneDrive.

Important
If you exceed your Microsoft storage:
- you can’t upload, edit, or sync new files (such as Camera Roll) to your OneDrive,
- you can't send or receive email in Outlook.com.
- after 6 months, we might delete your OneDrive and all files within it.

Changes to personalized email addresses in Outlook.com
Starting November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family subscribers can no longer create a new email address for any personalized domain associated with their Outlook.com mailbox.
I have a personalized email address in Outlook.com. What will happen to my email address?
If you already have a personalized email address in Outlook.com, nothing changes, and you can continue using it without any disruption in service. However, you need to keep your personalized email address setup in Outlook.
If I remove a personalized email address after November 30, 2023, can I add it back?
After November 30, 2023, Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family subscribers who remove their personalized email address from their Outlook.com account can't add it back. The feature is no longer available to you.
If you change your mind and want to use Outlook with a personalized email address, you need to consider switching to one of our Microsoft 365 Business plans.
What additional premium features do I get in Outlook.com with my Microsoft 365 Basic/Personal/Family/Pro subscription?
Microsoft 365 subscribers get exclusive access to these Outlook.com premium features.
Advanced email security. As a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you get enhanced security tools that help protect your inbox from phishing and malware. Learn more about advanced Outlook.com security for subscribers.
Email encryption. Outlook.com includes encryption and prevent forwarding features that ensure the confidential and personal information you share via email stays encrypted and doesn't leave Microsoft 365. This feature is useful when you don't trust the recipient's email provider to be secure. Learn more about encrypted messages.
Ad-free interface. Microsoft 365 subscribers enjoy an ad-free Outlook.com mailbox.
Larger mailbox storage. Microsoft 365 subscribers get 100 GB of email storage as a subscription benefit.
Note
100 GB is not available to Microsoft 365 trial subscribers. The increased storage only becomes available shortly after a paid subscription starts.
Premium support. Microsoft 365 subscriptions include premium customer support, so if you need to contact Microsoft for help, you get our highest level of service.

Will my Microsoft account aliases be affected?
No. You can continue to create aliases for your Outlook.com mailbox, and add other email addresses as an alternate way to sign in.

How can I find where I purchased my Microsoft 365 subscription?
- Go to your Services & subscriptions page.
- If prompted, choose Sign in and enter the Microsoft account email and password associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Select the Manage button. If you purchased your subscription through Microsoft, you see options to manage your subscription. Otherwise, you're taken to the website of the third-party retailer where you purchased your subscription.
How do I cancel my subscription?
If you don't want to continue your Microsoft 365 subscription, visit Cancel a Microsoft 365 subscription for instructions.
If you purchased a Microsoft 365 subscription with recurring billing from a third-party retailer instead of the Microsoft Store, contact the third-party retailer directly to cancel your subscription.
