When you enable an add-in, it adds custom commands and new features to Microsoft 365 programs that help increase your productivity. Because add-ins can be used by attackers to do harm to your computer, you can use add-in security settings to help protect yourself.

As you start the new Outlook for Windows for the first time, you'll be asked during set up whether you want to import your settings and install your existing Outlook for Windows add-ins, so your new experience feels familiar.

Important: Copilot in Outlook only supports work or school accounts, and Microsoft accounts using outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, and msn.com email addresses at this time. Any Microsoft account using an account from a third-party email provider, such as a Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud, can still use Outlook, but won't have access to the Copilot features in Outlook.

An add-in might send data to its own service, but only to complete the task you've requested. For example, the Bing maps add-in might send information to the Bing online service in order to find the location you've requested.
