Set up or change the languages used to check spelling and grammar
Go to Review > Language > Set Proofing Language. Note: Languages in use in the document display at the top. Languages with downloaded proofing tools have a checkmark symbol. If you don't want Word, PowerPoint, or Outlook to mark errors in the selected text, select Do not check spelling or grammar.

Change the language Office uses in its menus and proofing tools
On the Review tab, go to Language. Select Language, choose Set Proofing Language, and then pick Detect language automatically. In Office, the language options are in the Office Language Preferences dialog box. The display and authoring languages can be set independently.

Turn AutoCorrect on or off in Word - Microsoft Support
Go to File > Options > Proofing and select AutoCorrect Options. On the AutoCorrect tab, select or clear Replace text as you type.

Troubleshoot checking spelling and grammar in multiple languages
To select the Detect language automatically check box in Word, do the following: On the Review tab, in the Language group, click Language > Set Proofing Language.

Turn on automatic language detection - Microsoft Support
To solve this problem, type more words in the language that you want, or clear the Detect language automatically check box. Detect the language you're typing and automatically enables the proofing tools for that language.

Turn on automatic language detection - Microsoft Support
The Detect language automatically option, available in Word and Outlook on Windows, detects the language that you are typing and automatically enables the proofing tools for that language.

Check spelling and grammar in Office - Microsoft Support
In OneNote, PowerPoint, Publisher, Visio, and Word: On the File menu, select Options, and choose Proofing. Select or clear the Check spelling as you type check box. In programs that have automatic grammar checking, you may also select or clear the Mark grammar errors as you type check box.
