Windows 11, version 26H2 — also known as the Windows 11 2026 Update — is built on the same servicing foundation as recent Windows 11 releases. It delivers the latest Windows innovations with a streamlined update experience designed to minimize disruption and help you stay secure, productive, and up to date.

For many eligible devices, moving to version 26H2 is as simple as installing a small enablement package, with a minimal download size, quick installation, and a single restart. Version 26H2 enables most of the features that were introduced in monthly updates for Windows 11, version 25H2.

What's new in Windows 11, version 26H2

Windows 11, version 26H2 includes features and enhancements that were gradually introduced through servicing updates for Windows 11, versions 25H2 and 24H2. These improvements span security, management, accessibility, and productivity. For commercial customers, version 26H2 also enables by default several features that were previously introduced under temporary commercial control. These include:

  • Windows settings backup, which helps preserve supported Windows settings and Microsoft Store app lists for recovery and device replacement scenarios. Existing administrator-configured policies continue to be honored.
  • App-specific taskbar actions, which provide access to common app actions directly from taskbar experiences.
  • File Explorer improvements focused on navigation and usability.

How to get Windows 11, version 26H2

Windows 11, version 26H2 is available through a controlled feature rollout for eligible devices running Windows 11, versions 25H2 and 24H2.

To be among the first to receive the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and turn on Get the latest updates as soon as they're available. Once your device is eligible, you'll see the option to download and install Windows 11, version 26H2.

As always, we take a measured and data-driven approach to broad availability. During rollout, we might place safeguard holds on devices where we detect a known compatibility issue that could impact the update experience. Availability will continue to expand over time, with status updates provided through the Windows release health hub.

Servicing and support lifecycle

Windows 11, version 26H2 continues Microsoft's annual Windows feature update cadence. Installing Windows 11, version 26H2 resets the support lifecycle for supported editions, as noted here:
