Communities in Microsoft Teams for personal use are retiring

Communities in Microsoft Teams for personal use are retiring soon. You can prepare by starting a group chat to stay connected and downloading a copy of your community messages and media.

What’s changing?

As this change rolls out, you won’t be able to create new communities. You can continue using your existing communities for now. This change applies only to Communities in Teams for personal use. It doesn’t affect Teams for work or school.

Keep your conversations going

Create a group chat in Teams and add the people you want to stay connected with. Your community won’t automatically become a group chat. Community members and content won’t transfer automatically.

Save your community messages and media

To keep a copy of your community messages and media, follow the instructions to export your data. Sign in with the Microsoft account you use for your community. Important: Export the data you want to keep before leaving or deleting a community. If you leave or are removed from a community, you won’t be able to export its data. Members also lose access to community data when the community is deleted.
