Google login deprecation in Clipchamp's Windows app

Note: This article applies to Clipchamp for personal accounts and the login options it offers. The article does not apply to Clipchamp for work accounts where login with Google is not available.

Microsoft Clipchamp is removing support for the Google login method from the Clipchamp Desktop App for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Here’s what you need to know.

What is happening?

When you attempt to log into more recent versions (from 3.x) of Clipchamp's Desktop App with a Google account, you will see a notice directing you to launch Clipchamp in a web browser. There, you can still sign in with Google.

After signing in, we recommend linking your Clipchamp account with your personal or family Microsoft account. This way, all your existing video projects are associated with both your Google and Microsoft accounts and are accessible when signing into Clipchamp's Desktop app with your Microsoft account.

Why the change?

Clipchamp is a Microsoft product, and we want to create seamless experiences with other products that use your Microsoft account, such as OneDrive. This means that you need to use a personal or family Microsoft account to log into Clipchamp.

If you don't have a Microsoft account yet, you can create one for free and use your existing email address such as Gmail to do so. A Microsoft account does not need a Microsoft email.

When is the change taking effect?

As of April 1st, 2024, signing in to Clipchamp's Desktop App will require a Microsoft account.

If you haven't linked your Microsoft account with your video projects yet, you can still sign in to https://app.clipchamp.com with Google in Edge or Chrome and connect a Microsoft account there, then use the Clipchamp Desktop app with your newly linked Microsoft login for Clipchamp afterwards.

Will this impact my projects or videos?

Your video editing projects will not be affected, and you will not lose them.

You simply need to link your video projects with a personal or family Microsoft account per the instructions in this article.

How do I connect my Clipchamp account to my Microsoft account?

You can find instructions on how to connect a personal or family Microsoft account in this help article.

What if I don’t want to connect a personal Microsoft account?

If you do not wish to connect a Microsoft personal or family account, you will be unable to sign into Clipchamp via the Clipchamp desktop app for Windows.

For the time being, you can continue to log into Clipchamp in the browser with Google or another available sign-in method or you can submit a request for account deletion here.

How can I export my data?

If you would not like to continue using Clipchamp, you can sign in to https://app.clipchamp.com and export any in-progress videos and then delete your account, as directed above.
