A PIN is a set of numbers, or a combination of letters and numbers, that you choose yourself. Using a PIN is a quick, secure way to sign in to your Windows device. Your PIN is securely stored on your device.

To change your PIN when you're already signed in:

  1. Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign in options

  2. Select PIN (Windows Hello) > Change PIN  and then follow the instructions. You will need to know and enter your old PIN in order to change to a new one.

Note: If you have forgotten your PIN and signed in to your machine using a password, fingerprint, security key, or other means, you can also select I forgot my PIN and follow the directions to verify your account and select a new one.

The PIN you use to access your device is different from your Microsoft account password. If you need to reset your Microsoft account password, see Change your Microsoft account password.
