Fix print job stuck in queue errors in Windows

If the documents are stuck in the print queue and aren't printing or if the new print jobs do not proceed due to stuck tasks, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Cancel all print jobs from Windows settings

  1. Select Start > Settings >Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your printer, and then select Open print queue.
  3. Right‑click each print job, and then select Cancel to remove it.

Step 2: Restart the print spooler service

The print spooler service handles print jobs and restarting this can resolve temporary issues with printer recognition.

  1. Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down and locate Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click on Print Spooler and select Restart.

Step 3: Manually clear the spool folder

Note

Use this method if canceling jobs does not clear the queue.

  1. Stop the Print Spooler service:

    • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Scroll down and locate Print Spooler.
    • Right-click on Print Spooler and select Stop.

  2. Open File Explorer, and then navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

  3. Delete all files in this folder.

  4. Start the print spooler service:

    • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Scroll down and locate Print Spooler.
    • Right-click on Print Spooler and select Start.

Step 4: Restart the PC and printer

  1. Turn off your printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Turn the printer back on.
  4. Restart your PC: Select Start > Power > Restart.
  5. Try printing again.
