Start the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription included with your Office Pre-installed PC

1: Check the status of the system

Step 1:

After boot your device, select the Start button, then select the Settings

Step 2:

Select Network and Internet, and then check that your device is connected to Internet in the main page

Step 3:

Select System, and then select Activation. This page indicates whether Windows is activated

Step 4:

Select Apps, and then select Installed apps. You can see the version number of "Microsoft 365 ja-jp".

If you check the number is already "16.0.19231.20xxx" or later version, go to next step.

Important: "16.0.19231.20xxx or later" is required to show the expected user experience for starting the subscription on a Microsoft 365 client app. If the number is earlier than "16.0.19231.20xxx" such like the screenshot on the right side, without launching Word, Excel or PowerPoint, please connect your PC to the internet and wait a moment until the latest update will be applied to the preinstalled Microsoft 365 apps.

2: Check the Microsoft 365 Personal offer included with your device

Step 1:

Select the Start button, then select the Microsoft Store Icon

Step 2:

The top of the Microsoft Store app opens

The toast pops up to notify the offer included with the device.

Select the Library Icon, then select the Included with device tab

Step 3:

Make sure that the offer below is displayed under the tab

"Microsoft 365 Personal"

If you can see the offer, check the expiration date of this offer is set with 180 days after Windows activation, and close the app.

Important: If you can't see the "Microsoft 365 Personal" under the tab in Microsoft Store app, please contact the manufacturer of your purchased Office Pre-installed PC.

3: Start a Microsoft 365 client app

Step 1:

You've got Office dialog opens first on the app

This indicates that the Microsoft 365 Personal 24-month free offer is included with your device.

Select Sign in button

If the You've got Office opens first like this, this indicates that the Microsoft 365 client apps are automatically signed in with your Microsoft account of the Windows user account.

Select Get Started button and go to step 3

Step 2:

Sign in dialog opens

Sign in with your Microsoft account following the instruction in "Sign in" dialogs

Step 3:

Before you continue... dialog opens

Select Confirm button to agree to the Microsoft Service Agreement

Step 4:

We found your product opens

This indicates that the Microsoft 365 Personal 24-month free offer is ready to be redeemed with your Microsoft account.

Select Confirm button if your account is correct.

Step 5:

Activate 24 months of Microsoft 365 Personal for free opens with the switch turned on by default

Here you can choose either 24-month full or 3-month trial by the switch in this screen.

Select either item from the dropdown menu below.

Step 6:

The title is "Activate 24 months of Microsoft 365 Personal for free" in the dialog

This indicates that you can start the full 24 months free subscription.

If you can see "Add payment method" button in the dialog, you need a payment method add in your Microsoft account.

If a screen like the one on the right appears in the Step 5, it means that a payment method has already been registered in your Microsoft account, please proceed to Step 9.

Step 7:

Choose a way of payment screen opens

Select Credit card or Debit card and select Next button

Enter your credit card information and billing address.

Select Next button

Step 9:

Confirm your billing details dialog opens

This indicates that the payment method registered in your Microsoft account is selected

Select Next button if this selection is correct

Step 10:

Success dialog opens

This indicates that the 24 month subscription starts successfully.

Accept License Agreement dialog opens

This indicates the client apps are activated successfully.

Select Accept button

Finish the Privacy Settings

Complete the remaining steps on a client app

Step 13:

Go to File > Account and check the license of "Microsoft 365" shows without highlight in "Product Info" section

You can see the app is activated with the Microsoft 365 license.

Caution: If you turn on the switch and then start the full 24 months subscription, Office Home and Business 2024 free offer will be never provided. And when you free subscription will end after 24 months, you will be billed for next 12 months subscription fee and your subscription will be extended automatically. If you want to turn the recurring billing off before billing, see the article and turn the recurring billing off in your Microsoft account dashboard.

Step 6:

The title changes to "Turn on recurring billing to activate all 24 months for free".

You can start 3 month free trial subscription without a payment method in your Microsoft account.

Step 7:

Success opens

This indicates that the 3-month trial subscription starts successfully.

This indicates the client apps are activated successfully.

Finish all Privacy Settings

Complete the OOBE on a client app

Step 10:

Go to File > Account and check the name of "Microsoft 365" shows without highlight in "Product Info"

You can see the app is activated with Microsoft 365 license.

Caution: If you turn off the switch and then start the 3 months trial subscription, before the trial will be expired, please decide whether to continue the remaining 21 months subscription. If you choose to continue, add a payment method to your Microsoft account and turn on recurring billing. If you choose not to continue, you will not be charged once the trial period expires, but the remaining 21-month subscription will be revoked. Instead, we will offer the Office Home and Business 2024 for free to you.
