If you’re a channel owner, you can share a channel with teams inside or outside your organization.

Note: Share channels from Teams for desktop or web. The Teams mobile app doesn’t support sharing channels with teams.

Share a channel with a team you own 

  1. Go to the channel you want to share, and select More options  More options button > Share channel > Share with a team you own.

  2. Type the name of the team, and select it from the list. Then, select Done.



    When you share a channel with a team, they get a notification and can access the channel right away.

Share a channel with another team

  1. Go to the channel you want to share, and then select More options  More options button > Share channel > Share with a team.

  2. To share with a team inside your org, type the name of the team owner, and select it from the list. To share with a team outside your org, type the email of the team owner, and then select it from the list. Then, select Send invite.

To see your sent invites, select More options  More options button > Manage channel > Sent Invites.

Note: When you send an invite to a team owner, they’ll see your name, profile picture, status availability (Available, Busy, Do not disturb, Be right back, Away, and Offline), channel name, and org name. To learn more, see Compare external and guest access.

Accept or decline a team invite to a shared channel

If you're a team owner, you can accept or decline team invites to shared channels.

  1. Go to your Activity Feed, and then select the shared channel invite.

  2. Select Accept or Decline.

  3. If you accept it, then type the name of the team you’d like to add to the channel, and select it from the list. Then, select Done.

Note: You’ll have 14 days to accept a shared channel team invitation.

Note: The channel owner needs to approve your selection. They’ll see the name of the team, number of people in the team, whether the team is public or private, and the org that team belongs to. They'll also see your name, profile picture, email address, and status (Available, Busy, Do not disturb, Be right back, Away, and Offline). To learn more, see Compare external and guest access.

Approve or deny a team for a shared channel

If you're a shared channel owner, you can approve or deny teams for shared channels.

  1. Go to your activity feed, and then select the accepted invite notification.

  2. Select Approve or Deny.

Note: You'll have 14 days to approve a team.

Note: Admins must enable B2B direct connect before you can add people or teams outside your org to a shared channel. To learn more, see Collaborate with external participants in a channel.
