Create a to-do list and tasks in OneNote with Copilot

Note: This feature is available to customers with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license or Copilot Pro license.

Joseph has a one-hour meeting with his manager, Evan, every other week to discuss his performance, prioritize projects, plan future sprints, and go over administrative tasks. During these meetings, Joseph keeps notes in OneNote to keep track of what they talk about and any follow-up tasks. This week’s meeting was devoted to Joseph’s recent promotion. Evan explains what the new role entails, performance expectations, and ideas for getting comfortable in the role.

After the meeting, Joseph doesn’t know where to begin and is overwhelmed by the large amount of information Evan provided. Joseph knows that OneNote can help him extract a to-do list from his meeting’s OneNote notes.

To extract a to-do list, Joseph completes the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the page to extract a to-do list from.

  2. On the Home ribbon, select Copilot.

    1. The Copilot pane opens on the right side of OneNote.

  3. In the Copilot compose box, enter “Extract a to-do list from the new role notes on this page. Include tasks for transferring my previous role to a new owner and tasks to get onboarded into my new role.

  4. Select the Send arrow.

    1. Copilot creates a to-do list and pastes it onto the page.

Joseph now has a complete list of tasks in OneNote without having to overanalyze his notes. He can copy and paste the list into OneNote pages and other apps for easier tracking and to keep Evan up to date on his progress. Joseph can transition to his new role knowing that he has everything covered.
