If your organization has turned on video calls and conferencing, you can make face-to-face video calls with your contacts.

Depending on how you set your VoIP call options, when you make or receive a video call it might use Wi-Fi or your cellular data plan. For more information, see Manage Wi-Fi for VoIP options.

Start a video call

To make a video call, from the Contacts screen find the person in your Contacts list, or type their name in the search box. When you find the contact, tap their name, tap the Video icon, and then tap Start Video to start a video call.

When you’re in a video call, you have the option of using your front or back camera. If the person you’re calling doesn’t have a camera or chooses not to turn on their video, you won’t be able to see their video but you can still hear them. The other person can still see your video even if they don’t turn on their video.

Receive a video call

Tap video to accept an incoming audio and video call or tap audio to accept an audio call only.

Manage a video call

When you’re in video you can manage your video call by tapping the following icons:

  • Mute icon to mute and unmute the call.

  • Hold icon to put the call on hold, and then tap the Hold icon again to resume the call.

  • Speaker icon to turn the speaker phone on and off.

  • End call icon to end the entire conversation including any audio, video, and IM.

  • IM icon to view or send an IM to people in the call, and then tap the Phone icon to go back to the video screen.

Tap the Camera icon and then do one of the following:

  • stop camera to turn off your video, but still see another person’s video.

  • switch camera to switch from the front or back Windows Phone camera.

  • end video to end everyone’s video for you only, but still have audio.

At the bottom, tap the More (…) icon to do the following:

  • end conversation to end the video call.

  • see contact card to view participant’s contact card.

  • send as email to send the conversation in email.

  • see conversations to view other conversations including past and current conversations.
