Symptoms

When you use the sys.column_store_row_groups and sys.dm_db_column_store_row_group_physical_stats dynamic management views (DMV) together with large data definition language (DDL) operations in Microsoft SQL Server 2016, a deadlock may occur.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2016 RTM

Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2016 SP1
