Make text and images clearer
Turn on edge smoothing to reduce the jagged, pixelated look that magnified text and images can have.
- Select Settings > Accessibility > Magnifier.
- Turn on Smooth edges of images and text.
With Narrator and a keyboard:
- Press Windows
key+Ctrl+M to open the Magnifier settings. - Press Tab until you hear "Smooth edges of images and text," followed by "on" or "off."
- Press Spacebar to turn it on or off. Narrator announces the new state.
Smoothing is a personal preference, some people find it crisper, others prefer it off. Toggle it and see which reads better for you.
Invert colors
Inverting colors turns light backgrounds dark and dark text light, which can cut glare and eye strain.
- While Magnifier is on, press Ctrl+Alt+I to invert the colors on screen.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+I again to return to normal colors.
Note
Want inverted or high‑contrast colors across all of Windows (not just while Magnifier is on)? See Contrast themes and Color filters in Set up your device for screen comfort. If a bright screen is uncomfortable rather than hard to read, try Screen Tint (Settings > Accessibility > Screen Tint), which softens the whole screen with a color of your choice.
