Can I chat with people who use Microsoft Teams (work or school) in Microsoft Teams Free?

In Microsoft Teams Free, you can reach out to your colleagues, business partners, or customers who are using Microsoft Teams (work or school).

To chat with a Microsoft Teams (work or school) user

1. Open Microsoft Teams Free on desktop.

2. Enter your contact’s business email in the Search bar.

   Note

   Starting a chat with a work or school account will allow them to see your email address.

   Not all organization members are searchable.

3. Select your contact result from People and then send them a chat message. Only certain functionality will be available.

4. After your contact has accepted your request, you will be able to chat with them.
