Follow-up Recommendations
Follow-up Recommendations identifies follow-up exam recommendations that are documented within a report and extracts them into structured data fields. PowerScribe One uses Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) technology to recognize recommendation language in the report text and standardize it for downstream use.
Follow-up Recommendations can be created manually or incorporated into the reporting workflow during report signoff, depending on configuration.
Note
Only Epic Radiant 2015 or later can accept Follow-up Recommendations and deliver them directly to the EMR/EHR through the HL7 interface. If your organization is not integrated with Epic, Follow-up Recommendations can still function independently within PowerScribe One. In this scenario, tracking is available to the PowerScribe One Administrator under Logs > Reports.
How Follow-up Recommendations work
- Open a report in the Report Editor and begin dictating.
- As you document findings, PowerScribe One uses Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) to detect recommendations in the report text.
- When a recommendation is detected, an alert appears in the Navigator and/or in the Smart Assist Considerations.
- If needed, launch Follow-up dialog to review or edit the recommendation or wait to address the Follow-up Recommendations after selecting Sign.
Review and edit Follow-up Recommendations
When the Follow-up dialog opens, review the recommendation and update the following fields as needed:
| Fields | Description |
|---|---|
| Time Between | Select a range of days for the recommended follow-up exam. |
| Modality | Select the imaging modality from the dropdown list. |
| Body Region | Select the applicable anatomy from the dropdown list. |
| Laterality | Select Left, Right, Bilateral, Unilateral, or Unspecified. |
| Findings | CLU automatically populates findings based on the report content. You can select, deselect, or add findings as needed. |
| Optional Findings | If no findings are returned by CLU, enter findings manually in the Optional Findings field. |
| Flag for review | Mark the recommendation for review by the ordering clinician in the EMR. (Applicable to Epic customers only.) |
Finalize Follow-up Recommendations
When you sign the report, you are prompted to Flag for Review, Accept, or Decline each Follow-up Recommendation.
Review each recommendation and edit data elements as appropriate.
Select Flag for Review, Accept, or Decline for each recommendation.
Note
Selecting Cancel closes the Follow-up Recommendations dialog and returns you to the report without saving changes.
When finished, select OK.
