You can convert multiple AutoCAD drawings into Visio diagrams. This is faster than if you were to convert drawings one by one. This process converts the drawings into Visio drawings. During that process Visio converts the .dwg or .dxf files into Visio shapes. Depending on the number and size of the files, this could take some time.
AutoCAD versions supported
If you are a subscriber of Visio Plan 2, you can open .dwg or .dxf files from AutoCAD versions 2007 through 2017. If you are not a subscriber, make sure to save the files as AutoCAD 2007 .dwg or .dxf before converting them.
Working at the same scale as AutoCAD
If you want to work in the same scale as the AutoCAD file, we recommend preparing for an AutoCAD import, and then importing the files instead of opening and converting them.
How to convert more than one AutoCAD drawing
-
Put all of the AutoCAD files in one folder. You can convert .dwg or .dxf files.
-
Open Visio, and create a new blank drawing. (You open a blank drawing simply because that allows you to access the Add-Ons menu.)
-
Click View > Add-Ons > Visio Extras > Convert CAD Drawings.
-
Locate and open the folder with your AutoCAD files. Use the CTRL key to select more than one.
-
Click Open.
Each AutoCAD file will appear on its own Visio drawing, and will be converted into shapes. When the conversion process is done, be sure to save each file. When you save, the default file type is Visio Drawing (.vsdx).
