Troubleshoot camera roll backup issues in OneDrive

If OneDrive camera backup isn’t working, or if some of your photos and videos aren’t uploading, check your connection, camera backup settings, storage space, and device settings.

Start with these camera backup checks

On Android, iPhone, or iPad, start with these checks. After each check, see whether your missing photos or videos begin uploading to OneDrive.

  1. Check your internet connection. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or that OneDrive is allowed to use your mobile data connection.

  2. Keep OneDrive running. Open the OneDrive app and leave it running while your photos upload. Closing or force-closing OneDrive can prevent automatic camera backup.

  3. Check your storage. If your Microsoft storage is full, you can't upload recent photos and videos to OneDrive. Sign in to check your storage usage.

  4. Give large backups more time. If you have many photos or videos, the initial backup can take some time. Plug in your charger and keep your device connected to Wi-Fi.

Note

On iPhone and iPad, iOS might go to sleep during a large camera upload to conserve battery life. This can make the upload take longer.

Check camera backup settings on Android

In the OneDrive app, tap your account image, then Settings > Camera backup.

  1. Make sure camera backup is turned on. Check that you're backing up to the correct Microsoft account.
  2. Check charging settings. Make sure Backup only when charging isn't preventing uploads.

Check camera upload settings on iPhone or iPad

In the OneDrive app, tap your account image, then Settings > Camera Upload.

  1. Make sure camera upload is turned on. Check that you're backing up to the correct Microsoft account.
  2. Check mobile data settings. If you're not using Wi-Fi and want to allow mobile data, turn on Upload Using Cellular Data.
  3. Check battery settings. Connect your charger, turn off Low Power Mode, and make sure OneDrive can run in the background. Learn how to turn Low Power Mode on or off.

Note

OneDrive can't upload photos optimized for iCloud.
