How to get updates
Surface updates are released in stages—not every Surface will receive updates at the same time, but they'll be delivered to all devices. If you haven’t previously received updates, you can manually update by following the steps at Download drivers and firmware for Surface.
You can quickly check the health of your Surface drivers and firmware using the Surface app.
- In the Surface app, expand Help & support to check the update status.
- If there are updates available, select the Check for updates button to open Windows Update and install the available updates.
If you don't have the Surface app installed, you can download the Surface app from the Microsoft Store. After the download is complete, select Start and enter Surface in Search. Then, select the app from the list of results
Note
- Firmware updates can’t be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version.
- When you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed.
- After the updates are installed, restart your device to complete the installation process. To restart your device, select Start

- Write, erase, and navigate smoothly with your pen. We’ve fixed issues where the Surface Slim Pen 2 unexpectedly loses pairing after inking, pen erasing isn’t stable, and the cursor position isn’t aligned to the pen during hovering.
Performance and usability:
- Simplify device management. System administrators now have the option to turn off the stop error triggered by a long power-button hold. They can set the value for PowerButtonBugcheck to 0 in the registry.

- Sign in and be productive whenever you need to. We’ve resolved issues with camera instability that may cause failures in Windows Hello authentication, Microsoft Teams meetings, or Windows Camera app functionality.
- Lead seamless video conference calls. We’ve resolved an issue that causes unexpected shutdowns during Microsoft Teams calls.

- Addresses a security vulnerability due to weak authentication that may allow an unauthorized user to elevate privileges over a network.
- Addresses a security vulnerability due to improper access control in Windows Cross Device Service allowing an attacker to elevate privileges locally.
- Addresses a security vulnerability related to Qualcomm advisory CVE-2025-21480 that may cause memory corruption due to unauthorized command execution in GPU micronode while executing specific sequence of commands.
Reliability:
- Fixes the issue that may cause the device to get stuck on the ‘Just a moment…’ page during the device setup process.
- Fixes the issue that resulted in the device to get stuck on the Windows Logo after waking up from hibernation.
Performance and usability:
- Improves touch functionality by fixing the issue where touch could be lost after disconnecting from an external monitor.
- Addresses the issue where Camera LED light may remain on while the device is in Sleep mode.
- Mitigates the issue where the front-facing camera does not function when VHDR is on as default.

- Improves system stability and reduces the frequency of unexpected shutdown or occurrence of black screen while watching Netflix.
- Mitigates the issue that could cause screen flashing or a blank display during power state transitions.
- Improves the touch experience by resolving an issue where touch functionality could be lost after the device remained in Sleep mode for an extended period.
- Addresses an issue with Slim Pen losing haptic or Side button functionality in Microsoft OneNote.
- Resolved an issue where the battery icon incorrectly displayed the device as plugged in after waking from Sleep mode, even when it was not connected to a power source.
Interoperability:
- Resolves connectivity issues that caused the device to lose wired network access or fail to detect external monitors when connected via USB-C.
Performance and usability:
- Resolves the issue that caused authentication failures while using Windows Hello when waking from Sleep mode.
- Improves camera stability by reducing unexpected crashes and addressing issues including freezing in video calls when HDR is enabled, errors when launching the Camera app or taking photos, and problems switching between front and rear cameras in some apps.
