Copilot in Word can help with many writing and editing tasks. Some document features and document management tasks are currently completed using Word's built-in features instead.
When to use Word's built-in tools
Create a new Word file Copilot can help draft or update content in the current document, but it can't create a separate new Word document file for you.
Provide an exact word count Copilot can estimate or help shorten content, but use Word's built-in Word Count feature when you need an exact count.
Directly add raw web addresses as links When supported, links must come from verified search results or existing links in the document.
Generate native Word charts Copilot may help create an image version of a chart, but native chart creation isn't currently supported.
Move, resize, or manipulate existing media Copilot can't directly move, resize, or edit existing images, charts, diagrams, videos, or embedded media. Use Word's built-in layout tools instead.
Create unsupported document objects
Copilot can add content that Word supports in the current document format. If a request can't be completed, Copilot may explain what's supported and point you to Word features or Microsoft Support guidance for completing the task.

Confirm that:
You're signed in with an account that has Copilot access.
Your Microsoft 365 subscription or organization settings include Copilot in Word.
Word is updated to the latest version.
Your organization hasn't restricted access.
