Subscriptions purchased directly from Microsoft may be eligible for a refund, depending on the timing of cancellation, the subscription type, and the country of purchase.

Note

Eligibility and timing

To be considered for a refund, a Microsoft subscription must first be cancelled through the Microsoft account that was used to make the purchase.

Important

Refunds are most commonly available when a subscription is cancelled shortly after purchase or renewal, but not all cancellations result in a refund. Eligibility is determined automatically during the cancellation process.

In some countries, Microsoft may offer a prorated refund when an eligible subscription is cancelled after billing, in line with local consumer protection rules. Availability varies by region and subscription terms - see below for details:

Where the subscription was purchased

Refunds are handled by Microsoft only for subscriptions bought directly from Microsoft. If your subscription was purchased through a third party—such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, or a retail partner—cancellation and refund requests must be made through that seller’s own refund process.

How to request a refund

Important

  • Refund eligibility is assessed case by case.
  • Cancelling recurring billing does not automatically mean a refund.
  • Access to Microsoft 365 typically continues until the end of the current billing period if no refund is issued.

Sign in to your Microsoft account, navigate to Services & subscriptions, select the subscription, and choose Manage followed by Cancel

During cancellation, we will indicate whether the subscription qualifies for a refund and guide the user through the next steps.
