Keep your DAX Copilot note summaries in sync with Epic

Your final signed note in Epic can include any of the four DAX Copilot SmartSection summaries, content from Epic SmartTools, and your manual edits. 

Before you edit your note:

Any edits you make in the Epic Note activity within any of the DAX Copilot SmartSections do not transfer to DAX Copilot at this time.

  • Editing directly in a SmartSection in your Epic note will break the link between Epic and DAX Copilot SmartSection.

  • You can add recordings and edit SmartSections in DAX Copilot after the link is broken, but changes won’t update in your Epic note unless you delete and replace the SmartSection(s).

Adding a new recording automatically updates the relevant SmartSections in DAX Copilot and your Epic database. These updates also appear in your Epic note if the link is intact. Always add new recordings before making manual edits.

  • Each new recording creates a new note version in DAX Copilot, including all prior recordings. This is a quick way to update SmartSections without manual edits.

  • New note versions generated from additional recordings won’t include manual edits made in DAX Copilot, but those edits remain in previous versions.

Any manual edits you make in DAX Copilot will not transfer to Epic until you select the Sync to EHR button.

Troubleshooting scenarios

Scenario 1: Why is the note in Epic different than in DAX Copilot?

Solution:

To restore the connection with any edits you made in the Epic note:

  1. Copy any edits you made in the SmartSection in Epic.

  2. Paste the edits into the current Note in DAX Copilot.

  3. Select Sync to EHR in DAX Copilot.

  4. Right-click and delete the SmartSection in your Epic note.

  5. Type the "dot phrase" for the SmartPhrase in your Epic note to restore the SmartSection with the edits you added in DAX Copilot.

Solution:

  1. Select Sync to EHR in the Note tab in DAX Copilot to send the Current version of the Note to Epic.

  2. If you have not made any edits to the SmartSections in your Epic note, the SmartSections will refresh with the current versions in DAX Copilot.

Scenario 2: I need to undo edits in DAX Copilot.

Solution:

Select Undo changes in the new Note card on the Transcript tab, or open the Version history and restore the previous note version as described below. 

Solution:

  • Manual edits are automatically saved, but do not transfer to Epic unless you select Sync to EHR. You can use standard keyboard shortcuts for "Undo" and "Redo" in the Note tab in DAX Copilot.

  • If necessary, you can revert to a previous note version:

    • Select the circular Version history icon in the Note tab.

    • Locate the previous note version.

    • Select Compare in split view from the View menu for the previous version.

    • Select the Restore button in the Note tab for the previous version.

Scenario 3: My session expired.

Solution:

  1. Close the DAX Copilot tab in Epic.

  2. Re-launch DAX Copilot from the Activity menu in any SmartSection.
