Manage orders in DAX Copilot for Epic
DAX Copilot helps you create and manage orders from patient encounters. It captures verbal instructions from ambient recordings and suggests them as orders, making it easy to initiate or update orders directly in your EHR.
Note: This feature must be enabled for your organization for the Orders tab to appear in DAX Copilot. Additional configuration by your internal EHR support team is required for direct order integration with your EHR (discussed below).
DAX Copilot can identify orders for:
-
Medications.
-
Immunizations.
-
Follow-up appointments.
-
Consults or referrals.
-
Procedures.
-
Imaging and diagnostic tests.
-
Labs.
-
And more...
Orders in DAX Copilot
A notification dot appears beside the Orders tab when DAX identifies any new potential orders in an ambient recording for your encounter.
A notification card will also appear on the Timeline tab.
Review your order suggestions
Select the Orders tab or the link in the notification card.
Each order DAX identified appears in a separate numbered row in the Orders tab. The text in the suggested order appears in notation format designed to facilitate order searches in your EHR.
You have several options when working with suggested orders:
-
Modify the text in the order field with additional details as a future reminder.
-
Copy the text in the order field using keyboard commands, the Copy button, or a voice command.
-
Use split-view to review your note and suggested orders side-by side.
-
Use the contents of the suggested order as search terms to find the correct order in your EHR.
Important:
-
AI generated suggestions are memory aids to improve accuracy and efficiency.
-
You cannot create new orders in the Orders tab.
-
Speak clearly with intent to place an order during recording for accurate suggestions.
Integrated order suggestions
If enabled and configured by your EHR team:
-
Suggested orders appear in a separate EHR screen or tab.
-
DAX sends each suggestion to your EHR, which matches it to available options for quick placement.
-
Follow your organization’s guidelines for completing orders.
Tip: Contact your EHR administrator if matching orders do not appear.
