Attend an event in Microsoft Teams

Depending on the event size and settings, attendees can engage with presenters and each other in various ways. Attendees may be able to use their mics and cameras, participate in the event Q&A and chat, and use live reactions.

Join an event

Join an event in the Teams Events app up to 15 minutes before the event starts. If you’re an organizer, co-organizer, presenter, or invited attendee, your invite will also contain dial-in codes to join by phone. External presenters won’t have dial-in codes.

To join an event directly in Teams:

  • Select Calendar calendar icon in Teams. Select the event you want to join and select Join teams camera icon .

  • Select Events events app icon on the left side of Teams. Select the event you want to join and select Join teams camera icon .

    • Can’t find your event? Select the Registered filter in Upcoming events in your org to see events you’ve registered for.
  • If you registered for an event, join from the registration link provided via email.

Use live translated captions

Depending on your event type, you’ll have different options to understand your event presenters better with live translated captions. Some events will allow you to choose from up to six or 10 preset languages based on the organizer's Office, M365, or Teams Premium offerings.

To use live translated captions during an event:

  1. Select Caption closed captions icon in your Teams window.

  2. Hover over Caption language or track settings-icon-1 .

  3. Select the language most familiar to you.

You'll now be able to view live captions in the selected language.

Note

In some events, depending on your Office, M365, or Teams Premium offerings, you may have more languages to select from. Selecting these translated languages will be the same as your current meeting experiences.

Raise your hand

To raise your hand during an event, select Raise raise hand icon in your meeting controls. If others’ hands are also raised, numbers will appear next to the raised hands indicating the order in which they were raised.

When you finish speaking, your hand will automatically be lowered unless you choose to keep it raised.

Use live reactions

Express your reaction towards what’s being shared during an event by selecting a live reaction. When you select one, it’ll pop up momentarily in the meeting window. Live reactions are visible to everyone in an event.

To use a live reaction during an event:

  • On Teams for desktop, select React react-icon in your meeting controls and choose a reaction.

  • On Teams for mobile, tap More teams-ellipses-icon and choose a reaction.

Speak during an event

Ask questions or share comments during an event by raising your hand to request to speak. When you speak, everyone in the audience will be able to hear you.

To request to speak during an event:

  1. Select Raise raise hand icon in your meeting controls.

  2. Select Raise hand. The organizer will see your request to speak.

  3. You’ll see a notification when it’s almost your turn to speak.

  4. When it’s your turn to speak, select Camera teams camera icon or Mic teams-mute-mic-icon to share your video or unmute yourself.

When you’re finished speaking, the organizer will take you off the main screen.

Participate in Q&A

Post, reply, and react to questions during an event by participating in Q&A. If the Q&A is moderated, you’ll receive a notification that an organizer received your question and will review it before posting it.

To open Q&A, select Q&A qa-icon-1 in your meeting controls.

To ask a question, type in the Ask a question text box at the top of the Q&A panel.

Rewind during an event

In certain events, you may be able to previous moments during an event or watch from the beginning if you join after it starts. Move your cursor over the event window to surface the progress bar. Then, select a past point on the progress bar to rewind and watch from that moment on.

To return to the live presentation, select Watch Live production-tools-icon-1 beneath the progress bar.

Note

Reactions and raised hands are only available when you’re watching the event live. The event chat and Q&A will always reflect live activity.

Leave an event

Leave an event anytime by selecting Leave in the top corner of your Teams window.
