Multilingual speech recognition in Microsoft Teams
Communicate clearly and effectively in multilingual Microsoft Teams meetings. In multilingual meetings, individual participants can speak, listen and read in their preferred languages through:Â
Supported languages:
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
Interpreter agent
Note: Interpreter agent is available as part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot license. A Microsoft 365 license is required to listen to others’ speech through the Interpreter agent. To get access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, contact your IT admin.
The interpreter agent helps participants speak and listen in their preferred languages through real-time speech-to-speech interpretation. Â
To learn more about the Interpreter agent, see Interpreter in Microsoft Teams meetings.
Multilingual speech recognitionÂ
Notes:Â
-
Multilingual speech recognition is available as part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot license, an add-on license that provides additional features to make Teams meetings more personalized, intelligent, and secure. To get access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, contact your IT admin.
-
Multilingual speech recognition is also available as part of Teams Premium.
Multilingual speech recognition provides live translated captions and transcripts in real time without the Interpreter agent turned on, ensuring everyone can participate fully regardless of the language they speak.Â

Live translated captions and transcripts
Notes:Â

Live translated captions in meetings are available as part of Teams Premium and Microsoft 365 Copilot, an add-on license that provides additional features to make Teams meetings more personalized, intelligent, and secure. To get access to an eligible license, contact your IT admin.Â
-
If the meeting organizer has a Teams Premium or Microsoft 365 Copilot license, all meeting participants can use translated captions and transcription without a specific license required.Â
-
If individual participants have a Teams Premium or Microsoft 365 Copilot license, only those licensed participants will see the Translate to option and can use translated captions and transcription.Â
Live captions and live transcriptions will be translated automatically in meetings with multilingual speech recognition or the Interpreter agent enabled. With live translated captions and transcripts, participants can see multilingual conversations translated into the languages they can understand. Translation language can be set up in the language settings.Â
Translated captions and transcripts are only available during the meeting and won't be accessible after the meeting ends. Post-meeting translated transcripts can be generated via Clipchamp.
Note:Â If your IT admin enabled transcript translations for your org, transcription owners can generate translations in 100+ languages. Translations will then be accessible on the Recap page. To learn more about the requirements for this feature, see Pay-as-you-go transcript translations for videos in Microsoft 365.

There are two ways translated recaps are generated:Â
-
If multilingual speech recognition was turned on during the meeting, your recap will appear in the language you selected under Translate to for captions and transcription.
-
If the Interpreter agent was turned on during the meeting, multilingual speech recognition was automatically turned on. Your recap will appear in the language you selected under Translate to for captions and transcription. To learn more, see Interpreter in Microsoft Teams meetings.
