Adding a procedure code to an AutoText (also referred to as categorizing an AutoText) is a best practice in PowerScribe One. Procedure code categorization helps ensure that the most relevant AutoText are available at the right time and makes them easier to locate while reporting.
Why categorize an AutoText to a procedure code?
Procedure code categorization is used to:
- Determine the default template that is automatically inserted when a new report is created for a specific exam.
- Filter AutoText search results so users see only AutoText that are relevant to the procedure code(s) associated with the current order.
- Ensure that the correct AutoText are listed in the appropriate sections of the Report Editor.
- Categorizing AutoText improves efficiency, reduces clutter in AutoText search results, and helps ensure standardized content is applied consistently across similar exams.
Note
In PowerScribe One, categorizing an AutoText to a procedure code does not affect whether it can be invoked by voice. All Templates and Macros remain voice-enabled regardless of procedure code assignment.
Categorize an AutoText to a procedure code
- Open the AutoText you want to edit.
- In the AutoText Editor, select Procedure Codes.
- Use the Site, Modality, and Anatomy filters to search for applicable procedure codes.
- Select one or more procedure codes from the list, and then select Add.
The selected procedure codes appear in the right-hand pane.
To remove a procedure code, select the code and then select Remove.
Configure default behavior (ANY vs. ALL)
If the AutoText is marked as Default for Report, meaning the AutoText automatically populates in the Report Editor when the exam is opened, you can specify how it behaves when multiple procedure codes are assigned.
ANY
The AutoText is applied as the default when any of the selected procedure codes are present when dictation starts. (This is the default selection.)
- Select OK. The procedure codes are associated with the AutoText.
- Once desired updates have been made to the AutoText, select Save.
ALL
The AutoText is applied as the default only when all selected procedure codes are present when dictation starts.
Note
The ANY and ALL options apply only when the AutoText Default value is set to Report or Addendum, and when the system preference Voice trigger off after AutoText is not used for has not been modified by the site administrator or user.
Save your changes
- Select OK to associate the selected procedure codes with the AutoText.
- Select Save to apply your updates.
Tip
You can also right-click in the Report Editor to auto-categorize personal AutoText without opening the AutoText Manager.
