A default AutoText is an AutoText that is automatically invoked when you begin a report for a specific procedure. Default AutoText are used only when the Start with default AutoText preference is enabled (Preferences > Report Editing).
When you assign an AutoText as a default, you should also associate it with one or more procedure codes. This ensures the AutoText is applied only when the report matches the intended exam type. If an AutoText is not associated with any procedure codes, it is treated as a generic AutoText and is applied to every report.
How default AutoText works
- A default AutoText is automatically inserted when a new report or addendum is started.
- Procedure code association controls when the AutoText is applied.
- Procedure code categorization helps ensure the correct Template is used for the appropriate exam and prevents unnecessary AutoText from loading.
Important configuration notes
- You cannot assign more than one default AutoText to the same procedure code unless additional categorization (such as patient's age or gender) is used to differentiate them. If you attempt to save multiple default AutoText for the same procedure without differentiation, a warning message appears.
- If both a personal AutoText and a site AutoText share the same name and are relevant to a report, and only the site AutoText is marked as default, the site AutoText is used.
- Templates and Macros remain voice-enabled regardless of whether a procedure code is assigned.
Create a default AutoText
- Open the AutoText for editing.
- Select Settings.
- From the Default dropdown list, select Report or Addendum.
- Associate the AutoText with one or more procedure codes.
- The AutoText loads automatically only when you begin a report for one of the selected procedures.
- Select Save.
Caution
If you do not associate a default AutoText with any procedure codes, it is applied to every report. We strongly recommend assigning at least one procedure code unless the AutoText is intentionally designed to be generic and applicable to all procedures.
Best practices
- Always associate default AutoText with procedure codes whenever possible.
- Use default AutoText primarily for full report templates rather than short, insertable content.
- Review existing defaults regularly to avoid conflicts and unintended AutoText loading.
