For a supported dictation experience, PowerScribe One supports the following microphones:
- PowerMic II
- PowerMic III
- PowerMic 4
- Philips SpeechMike 3700
For best practices, connect the microphone directly to the back of the PACS workstation rather than through a monitor or external hub. Some microphones may require firmware updates to function as expected; refer to the device manufacturer’s documentation or your organization’s IT guidance for update requirements.
Refer to your organization’s technical specifications or administrator guidance for supported audio devices.
Positioning a handheld microphone
To position your handheld microphone consistently for speech recognition:
- Hold the microphone in a comfortable position.
- Position the microphone head approximately 3–4 inches directly in front of your mouth.
- Maintain a consistent microphone position each time you dictate.
- Avoid using a microphone stand or holder, as it can make consistent positioning difficult and may conduct background noise.
- Do not dictate into the side of the microphone.
Positioning a headset microphone
To position your headset microphone consistently:
- Adjust the headset so it fits comfortably.
- Place the microphone element approximately a thumb’s width from the side of your mouth to help reduce breathing noise.
- Ensure the front of the microphone is facing toward the side of your mouth. The front may be identified by a mark or label, depending on the device.
